CLIMATE AND CULTURE
Lakewood Middle School was honored as a PBSIS Showcase school. NJ PBSIS is a collaboration
between the New Jersey Department of Education Offices of Special Education and The Boggs Center,
Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. NJ PBSIS is funded by I.D.E.A. Part B funds and is in its
14th year of providing comprehensive professional development support training for school personnel across
New Jersey. LMS was recognized as one of the top PBSIS Middle Schools in NJ. There are over 300
schools in NJ that participate in the PBSIS initiative.

What: Lakewood Middle School was recognized as a showcase school. Dr. Horowitz, Vice-Principal,
Nicole Mackow and Bridgit Valgenti PBSIS Co-Chairs presented to 15 Cohorts that will be implementing
PBSIS for the 1st time.
How: Created artifacts to memorialize the program implementation for the gallery walk. Served as lead
presenters for the Middle School Cohorts.
Why: To explain how we achieved success and how the program remains sustainable year after year.
